The Friday Find: Bjorn and Bringly

Image(s) © Bjorn and Bringly

I am starting a new series on the blog, The Friday Find.  I love handmade and small businesses. There is just something about a small business owner who goes the extra mile for you. It's not the kind of thing you can find at Walmart or McDonalds, but those amazing business owners don't get nearly as much recognition as they should. So we're going to start giving them shout-outs every Friday, and allowing you to relish and splurge on their goods for the weekend.

Our very first feature goes to Bjorn and Bringly. I have really been into bracelet crafting lately, and as I browsed beaded friendship bracelets on Pinterest, I came across her Etsy shop. Let me tell you, my heart stopped for a moment when I saw these beaded bracelets. Inspired by the flowers and mountains of the Northwest, Julia puts exquisite detail in her jewelry. She truly makes the outdoors take your breath away with these gems.

If you'd like your small business featured on NewlyMynted send an email to: newlymynted@gmail.com. I would love to shout you out to the world!

*Submissions are subject to approval. Entries must coincide with the NewlyMynted brand, offering inspirational and resourceful opportunities for our readers.

Have a blessed weekend!

Color Crush: Cobalt

Cobalt Booties Cat eye frames Chandelier Earrings Velvet Pillow Double Breasted Military Coat Wave Wrap Bleu Cobalt Laquer Safety Clutch Envelope Clutch iPhone Case Cobalt Vase Image Map
For almost the past year I have had the biggest crush on blue handbags. Bright, striking blue handbags! Cobalt blue. Electric blue. Although I have yet to find one I absolutely adore with a price tag that's within my budget, I have not relented my swooning. My fascination has expanded to nail polish, jewelry and clothing, and a desire to expand my blue joy around my home.

This is what I like to call growth! For most of my adult life I have avoided blue like the plague. Navy blue is a terrible color on me, and because I couldn't wear navy, I just avoided blue altogether. My bigotry caused me to lose out on all this cobalt blue richness. No more though. This fall I plan to embrace blue as much as I can!

What are your color crushes?

Oodles of love today!

Bedtime routine for more beautiful skin

As I get older I notice my body aging more and more, and I am realizing how important all the regimes for keeping my body healthy are.

Younger looking skin is all about preventative maintenance!

I am an avid coffee and Dr. Pepper drinker, but all that caffeine and acid is slowly but surely wrinkling up my little bod. My honey has been kindly encouraging me to drink more water. I have been trying my best to adapt certain routines into my evenings after the kids go to bed, the only time I really have for myself. Here are few bedtime routine tips I have been practicing:

1:Warm Showers
A warm shower before bed eases the body. You don't want it too hot, just warm, to bring down your body temperature. A decrease in your temperature slows your metabolism and signals to your body that it's time to rest. It's also one less task in the morning, and you can set your hair before bed for some no-heat curls. Kind of a win/win!

2:Drink Water
I know we've said this already. But I'm learning just how important it is. When I get ready for bed, whether I had some already or not, I drink a tall glass first. Drinking plenty of water hydrates your skin, also making it plump and filling in lines and wrinkles. It flushes out toxins and dirt that clogs pores. It's the ultimate cleanser and energy booster!

3:Brush and Floss
If you want to keep your teeth, take care of them. Without a doubt, brush and floss. In fact, I've learned to go as far as using a gum stimulator to get beneath the gums where floss doesn't reach. I suffered from painful gums for months. I finally got into a dentist, only to learn I had gum disease. Worst cleaning I've ever had. It was so painful. This new dentist introduced me to a gum stimulator and I was astonished how much yuckiness came out from under my gums, even after regular brushing and flossing.

4:Clean and Moisturize
Always remove all of your makeup before bed. Sleeping in makeup is so bad for your skin. After removing, clean your face with a deep cleansing scrub. I like St. Ives apricot scrub. Once my skin has been rid of all germs, I treat and moisturize with H2O Waterwhite Advanced Brightening Cleanser and Cream . This stuff is honest to goodness amazing. I have always suffered from a dry t-zone. Since I started using the H2O cleanser, I have not noticed my face drying out at all. To end my cleaning ritual, I dab a spot of anti-wrinkle cream around my eyes and mouth, where lines have begun forming.

5:Get a Good Nights Sleep
Your beauty rest is so important to your health. But did you know how you sleep can effect your skin too? I did a little research, and even asked you ladies on Facebook how you slept. Most of you are side sleepers like me. But according to an article on CNN Health side sleeping is bad for your skin and breasts. It causes the skin in your face to get smashed, forming wrinkles over time. It also causes your breasts to sag. However, according to the article, sleeping on your back makes for perkier breasts and a reduction in wrinkles. Perkier breasts when I'm 40 sounds rather appealing!

What are your beauty routines?

Steph

Style Guide: Fall 2013 Trends & Makeup tips

Browns, blues and greens are going to be the trend colors for Fall this year. I am ecstatic! I, myself, am a little coral-ed out. As much as I love coral, I feel I wear it every year. I need a change.

I loved this image from Vogue and how they stepped out of the traditional black smokey eye and went with a rich, chocolate smokey eye instead. The dark-eyed look is kept fresh by being paired with a crisp white blouse, and accented with accessories from this years Fall color trends.

Makeup tips:
Be sure to use a nude lipstick or other soft color. Either play up the eyes or play up the lips. Don't do both. Remember, less is more. You don't want to look like you're wearing too much makeup.

Get yourself a set of falsies. Really play up your smokey eye this year with lush false lashes.

So much love from me to you today!!!

Plus-size Summer Style Guide

Asos Trousers $28.83 // Asos Dress $21.21 // Ruche Dress $38.99 // Trixxi Dress $26.99

1:  STOP THINKING OF YOURSELF AS "PLUS-SIZE"
It seems "plus-size" has become a negative connotation which somehow means larger women are ugly. I hate that stigma! The "plus" does not mean more. The term "plus-size" is for marketing purposes so that consumers can go to a store and find exactly what they're looking for. Think of how congested the women's department would be if all sizes, 2-24 were lined up in one spot. Consumers would never be able to rifle through it all and stores wouldn't make a profit. It's the "user friendly" way to shop. See what H&M model, Jennie Runk, has to say about being a plus-size model.

  2:  KNOW YOUR MEASUREMENTS
This is extremely important no matter what size you are. It's not the size you're looking for, but the fit. Different brands have different sizing guides, as well as different departments. Don't think you can go from Misses wearing a size 12 to Juniors and get into a 13. It may seem discouraging when you find you can't get into that 13 but rather have to wiggle into the 15, but that's because juniors are meant for a younger audience, whom they're assuming aren't quite fully developed. Sew, Mama, Sew has a great guide to finding your best fit.

  3:  WEAR SUPPORTIVE UNDERGARMENTS
Now that you know your figures, you are ready to start styling. The most important part of styling your body is properly supporting it. A good supporting bra is important, especially for bustier women. If your shoulder straps are cutting into your skin, you're wearing the wrong size bra. Consider going up a size (or more) in your band. If your cup barely covers your nipple, you need to increase your cup size. A too small cup gives your breasts room to sag. So pull those babies up!

  4:  SHAPE YOURSELF
Don't be deceived into thinking that because you're larger than the model shown, you can't have her curves. I spoke with one reader who admitted, "I've had four babies and carry almost all of my weight in my stomach. I hate it." C, you have my sympathy. My advice? Invest in shapewear. Women of all sizes should invest in this. Why? Because it slims out everything you don't want shown and gives you a flattering silhouette. It's also a great way to disguise pantylines. Spanx are my favorite! They are also favored by celebrities of all sizes, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Oprah. They carry a nice size price tag, but are worth it.

  5:  DITCH THE MEN'S T-SHIRTS
It may seem practical to throw on looser fitter clothing, but the truth is, baggier clothing makes women look frumpy. You're a woman with curves, flaunt them, don't frown on them!

  6:  PLAY UP YOUR ASSETS
Everyone has something they'd rather cover up and something they like to show off. If you have smaller ankles consider cropped pants or a knee length dress. This one shoulder Trixxi dress is perfect for someone broader across the top and narrower down the bottom. If you prefer to cover your midsection, try a bold maxi dress like this Dream Chaser dress or this Hydrangea dress. Maxi's are perfect with a cropped jacket. If your ass is your best asset, flaunt it with a printed pant like these Aztec trousers or a floral jumpsuit. Create an hourglass by drawing attention to your waistline, through to your hips. The lines of this pencil skirt or this belted floral dress do just that.

  7:  ACCESSORIZE & STAND OUT
Accessories are what make every outfit. Statement necklaces and stacked bangle bracelets are always a sure bet.

  8:  DARE TO BE YOU
Don't think because black is slimming, you're destined to wear black forever. Wearing striking colors shows confidence, which is sure to get you more compliments. Whether it's a dress or a striking piece of jewelry, the brighter the color the better! Step out with a bold day look. Keep your eye shadow soft and natural looking and put on your brightest red or coral lipstick. Never leave home without your lipstick.

Steph

Free Printable // The Beauty of Creativity

[Download link below]
Created by NewlyMynted

I had this realization on Saturday. Well, reminder really.

I spent two days sewing a curtain panel. It was beautiful. All 100 feet of it had gorgeous, straight lines. I was so proud of myself. If you sew, you know it takes practice to sew a straight line, and that a lot of fabric can cause bulk and weight and be difficult to keep all of it from sagging and pulling to the ground.

But alas, I was diligent and took my time, and my reward was a stunning curtain. Add in, the five yards of drapery fabric only cost me $5 thanks to my neighborhood Goodwill, and I was one happy seamstress.

I laid my panel out, ready to give it one last press before I hung it over the gold curtain rod I installed on my wall nearly two weeks ago, only to discover that my straight lines were useless. I had sewn the entire panel backwards.

BACKWARDS!

Sure as shit, those seams are on the right side of the fabric!

For the life of me I could not figure out how I spent two days pressing, pinning and sewing all those seams and never noticed I was pinning them right sides facing.

Oh my dear!

My spirits were lifted when a friend commented on my blunder photo about a time she accidentally sewed the leg on a pair of shorts shut and was shocked to find they wouldn't go on. I laughed and laughed!

This was a good little reminder. It took me two days to do a project that realistically shouldn't have taken more than a few hours. As a momma of three, efficiency has to be a priority. Also, there is no room for perfectionism in creativity. It never is perfect, which is one reason I love being so creative. It is often my blunders that produce sensational things.

In case you need this little reminder on occasion, here is a free 8x10 printable for you. All I ask is that you share. Sharing is caring!

Wear: Styling Wardrobe Staples

Blazer: H&M // tank: Modcloth // Jeans: Boden // Pumps: Bergdorf Goodman // Necklace: Guess

I firmly believe that a trim blazer is a must-have for any woman's wardrobe. I own one in black, one in pink and one in white. With warmer, brighter days ahead I've assembled my favorite ways to style said hot pink blazer, starting with stripes! I am really into black and white stripes this season. They are bold, chic and make a big impact on your styling. I have been concocting various ways to incorporate this into my wardrobe, as well as my decor. To keep it casual chic, pair with slim fitting jeans and a coordinating striking pump.

Pink blazer
Dress: Reiss // Shoes: Miu Miu // Earrings: Kate Spade

The word P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S comes to mind here. Don't be afraid to play it coy every now and then.A woman that appears soft and delicate makes quite an impression when her eyes are fixed on a target. Flaunt your femininity by dawning a white summer dress and bow inspired accessories. The blazer easily becomes its own statement.

Pink blazer
Shoes: Neiman Marcus // Sunglasses: My Wardrobe

Without a doubt a little black dress is a wardrobe staple, but sometimes they tend to feel played out. So tuck away your LBD once in a while and hit the town in a bold print. A pink blazer paired with a figure flattering leopard print dress burns with sultry goodness. Pull on a pair of heels that flatter your ankles and paint the town red -- or pink!

Pink blazer
Bandeau top: Betsey Johnson // Shorts: Delias // Sandals: Farfetch // Hat: JulesB

Getting back to the good ol' days of summer, where your skin is glowing, breezes are welcome and ice cold lemonade never tasted so good. A pink blazer with a pair of floral shorts is fitting for a day such as this. Show off that glowing skin with a bandeau top and floppy hat to match, and you're set for a walk around town or for bathing in the sun.

Love deary,
Steph

Daily deals

I know it's important for new blogs to blog every weekday, and I apologize for the lack of post yesterday. It is a busy week around here, though. Yesterday I had a new stove delivered (woohoo!) and got the leak in my bathroom sink fixed. That also included a new faucet! Then there were trips to the store, finishing my sons costume for his school play on Friday, cleaning, dinner with my neighbors, more cleaning, shower, then bedtime. I was whooped!

Today won't be much slower, but that's because I will be busy installing new gold shelving for my studio space and sewing curtains for my living room. You'll be seeing these up in no time.

For today, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite deals going on.

Feast your eyes and indulge!

Well, I believe it to be an acceptable time of morning to begin hammering on my walls. If you have any daily deal sites you'd like to share, please do. I follow tons of them. I am, after all, always looking for great ways to stretch my budget the best I can.

Love dearly,
Steph
